The most expensive green diamond sold at auction is the 5.03-carat Aurora Green, the centrepiece of a gold and pink-diamond ring, which realized HK$ 130,040,000 ($16,739,269; £11,449,554) – including buyer's premium – at Christie's in Hong Kong, China, on 31 May 2016. The Aurora Green was purchased by Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co Ltd.
It was also a per-carat sale record for a green diamond: HK$25,852,882 ($3,327,886; £2,276,253).
Green diamonds are particularly prized because they are extremely rare; the colour occurs as a result of irradiation, either natural or artificial.
