Novak Djokovic (Serbia, b. 22 May 1987) and Marin Čilić (Croatia, b. Bosnia and Herzegovina, 28 September 1988) met in the second round of the Shanghai Masters in China on 3 October 2025 when their combined age was 75 years 139 days.
Fourth seed Djokovic (38 years 134 days) prevailed 7-6, 6-4 against the unseeded Čilić (37 years 5 days) and progressed all the way to the semi-finals, where he would suffer a shock 6-3, 6-4 defeat to world No.204 Valentin Vacherot – soon-to-become the lowest-ranked player to win an ATP Masters 1000 title with victory in the Shanghai final on 12 October. The ATP Masters 1000, an annual series of nine tournaments, was inaugurated in 1990. They are a level below the Grand Slams and the ATP Finals, and named for the number of ranking points on offer to the winner.
