Largest gathering of people dressed as Monkey King

Largest gathering of people dressed as Monkey King consists of 262 participants and was achieved by Wulongkou Scenic Area Development Co., Ltd. of Jiyuan City and Liu Xiaolingtong (both China) in Jiyuan, Henan, China, on 20 September 2025.

Liu Xiao Ling Tong, whose real name is Zhang Jinlai, is a renowned Chinese actor best known for portraying the Monkey King (Sun Wukong) in the 1986 TV adaptation of Journey to the West. Coming from a family with a long tradition of performing Monkey King roles in Chinese opera, he inherited this artistic legacy and created one of the most iconic images of Sun Wukong in modern Chinese culture. Wulongkou Scenic Area is a tourist site and a Macaque Nature Reserve, it holds an annual Monkey King contest. The attempt is part of this year’s event to promote the Monkey King culture as well as to attract more tourists.
