The youngest female player to defeat a grandmaster in a chess tournament is Bodhana Sivanandan (UK, b. 7 March 2015), who was 10 years 156 days old, as verified in Liverpool, Merseyside, UK, on 10 August 2025.
In the final round of the 2025 British Chess Championships, Sivanandan beat 60-year-old grandmaster Pete Wells.
On the same day, Sivanandan became the youngest player in chess history to earn the Woman International Master title.
The male version of this record belongs to Ashwath Kaushik (Singapore, b. 7 August 2015), who was aged 8 years 195 days when he defeated 37-year-old grandmaster Jacek Stopa in Burgdorf, Switzerland, on 18 February 2024.
