Gallina lives in Teahupo'o village with her Tahitian mum and her surfer dad from Hawaii, USA. She started surfing at three years of age and just a year and a half later, she conquered Teahupo’o for the first time, known for having some of the world’s most dangerous waves.
After winning the Tahiti Pro trials in July, the 12-year-old surfing sensation was named the women’s wildcard.
Gallina, nicknamed “Miss Teahupo’o”, placed ninth in the contest, with an average heat score of 3.67 and an average wave score of 1.67. In the opening round, she went up against Australian Molly Picklum, the overall female winner, and Lakey Peterson. She was eliminated in the next round after losing to Gabriela Bryan.
As well as being the youngest female WSL Championship Tour competitor, Gallina is the youngest entrant overall.
