The longest pea pod is a mangetout/snow pea grown by Graham Barratt (UK) that measured 180 mm (7 in) when assessed in Southampton, Hampshire, UK, on 2 July 2025.
The variety is known as "JI2144" from the John Innes Centre in Norwich, Norfolk, UK, where they keep a large living collection of different pea species and cultivars. The seed originated from Spain in the 1970s. The giant pea pods were rediscovered in 2009 at the John Innes Centre collection when one scientist spotted a 165-mm (6.5-in) example, which is about twice the length of a typical mangetout/snow pea.
