The oldest operational cement plant (same location) is the CIMPOR Alhandra Plant (Portugal), with 132 years 77 days, in Alhandra, Lisbon, Portugal, as of 10 July 2026.
The plant was first opened by the Tejo Cement Company and produced around 6,000 tonnes of cement annually during this early period. Building works began in 1890 but production did not commence until the plant was granted a patent for the manufacture of artificial Portland cement as of the charter of 24 April 1894.
The Alhandra plant officially joined the newly formed CIMPOR group in March 1976 following the nationalisation of several cement plants across Portugal. Over 130 years on from its formation, the plant now produces 2.8 million tonnes of cement per year.
