Mario Mario is, of course, the main Nintendo mascot, a role he has held for some 40 years. In 2007, he teamed up with Sega's speedy front man Sonic the Hedgehog (a partnership that would have been unthinkable during the 1990s rivalry between the great gaming titans) for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega Sports R&D). The videogame featured eight characters from each franchise competing in a series of Olympic challenges, based around the Beijing 2008 Games. It sold 12.99 million units!
Subsequent editions were released for the Summer Games of 2012, 2016 and 2020 (delayed to 2021), and the Winter Games of 2010 and 2014.
