The longest-running women’s international football (soccer) tournament is the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, which was first held on 25 August–3 September 1975.
The inaugural AFC Women’s Asian Cup (then known as the AFC Women’s Championship) was staged in Hong Kong in 1975 – six teams entered and matches lasted only 60 minutes. New Zealand defeated Thailand 3–1 in the final to became the tournament’s first-ever champions. To date, there have been 20 editions of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, with China winning a record nine titles.
