Bayer Leverkusen claimed their first-ever German top-flight league title in record-breaking fashion, winning 28 and drawing six of their 34 games. Under coach Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen managed to avoid defeat in 51 games across all competitions, also winning the DFB Cup and reaching the final of the UEFA Europa League – where they finally lost to Italian side Atalanta.
