Prodigy pilot Tracer's sexuality and relationship with a woman are not central to her characterization, or the plot of Blizzard's hero shooters Overwatch (2016) and Overwatch 2 (2023) in which she stars, but having a witty, talented and charming Overwatch hero who is also a lesbian has made her an important character in the advance of representation in videogaming. Tracer's sexuality was revealed in the comic "Reflections", released on 20 December 2016, a Christmas-themed comic that, in part, showed Tracer trying to find a present for her girlfriend Emily.

Tracer is the youngest member of the Overwatch team, and was one of the original heroes revealed for the first game - as well as being its cover star.

In 2019, the short story "Bastet" revealed that Soldier: 76 was the first gay Overwatch hero. In 2023, we learned that Pharah is a lesbian, and that Lifeweaver is pansexual. In June 2023, Overwatch 2 had its first ever Pride event.

The first ever LGBTQ+ isn't as heroic as the Overwatch gang. A gay tailor named Paco is the antagonist in 1985's Le Crime du Parking (Froggy Software).
