The first televised football (soccer) broadcast was transmitted by BBC Television on 16 September 1937. Action from a specially arranged friendly between Arsenal and their reserves in London, UK, was broadcast live in a 15-minute-long programme.

Three cameras were set up around Arsenal Stadium to capture the action. The football broadcast was deemed a success, although viewers were limited to those few people who owned a TV set in the local area, and contemporary newspaper reports complained of bad light obscuring the action.
