The first drag performer to carry the Olympic torch was Miss Martini (France, b. Martin Namias), who beared the flame in Digne-les-Bains, France, on 11 May 2024, ahead of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
The following day, former RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Nicky Doll carried the torch in Arles, France. Doll also took part in the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony alongside Drag Race France stars, Paloma and Piche.
On 14 July 2024, during the last two weeks of the torch relay, Minima Gesté became the third drag performer to transport the flame in Paris.
Prior to 2024, drag artists had only ever taken part in the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. Paying homage to Australian cinema, 46 drag performers dressed in costumes from The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994, Australia) and rode around Stadium Australia on bicycles that had been converted into oversized high heels.
