Super Bowl XXXVI, held at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, USA on 3 February 2002 had the tighest security measures ever. The match, in which the New England Patriots beat the St. Louis Rams 20-17 was granted National Security Special Event status. The federal designation meant that the U.S. Secret Service coordinated security for the event and a host of government resources were used, including military aircraft and National Guard troops.
