Novak Djokovic (Serbia) played the 430th Grand Slam singles match of his career on 15 January 2025, defeating Portugal’s Jaime Faria 6–1, 6–7, 6–3, 6–2 in the second round of the Australian Open. With his four-set victory, Djokovic, 37, also laid down a marker as the first male tennis player to amass 150 Grand Slam singles wins after turning 30. His run to the semi-finals at Melbourne Park saw the 24-time champion finish the tournament on an unrivalled 434 singles matches played, with his latest game taking place there on 24 January.
Djokovic took the record from Switzerland's Roger Federer, who played the last of his 429 singles matches at Wimbledon in 2021.
Despite being unable to add to his unprecedented 10 singles titles in Melbourne and secure that elusive 25th Grand Slam singles crown, when his latest Australian Open campaign ended in a semi-final retirement against Alexander Zverev on 24 January 2025 he held records for the most major singles finals (37), semi-finals (50) and quarter finals (61) contested and the most singles match wins across the four Grand Slam tournaments (382; Federer 369).
The most prolific male Grand Slam singles player after Djokovic and Federer is Rafael Nadal (358 matches), with Serena Williams (423 singles matches) leading the way on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour.
