On 5 September 2024, Sabrina Carpenter (USA) became the first female artist in UK chart history to lock down the Official Singles Chart’s top three positions when “Taste” debuted at No.1 and her former best-sellers, “Please Please Please” and “Espresso”, climbed back up to No.2 and No.3, respectively, following the release of the singer’s sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet, which simultaneously entered the Official Albums Chart at No.1.
The same three songs lined up in the Top 3 in the same order on 12 September 2024, and “Taste” would go on to spend nine consecutive weeks at the top of the UK chart. Combined with “Please Please Please” (five weeks at No.1) and “Espresso” (seven weeks at No.1) – tracks that had turns at knocking each other off the top spot in July and August – Carpenter spent a total of 21 weeks at No.1 in 2024, giving her the title for the most weeks at No.1 on the UK’s singles chart in a calendar year (female).
Justin Bieber (14 January 2016), Ed Sheeran (16–30 March 2017) and Harry Styles (2 June 2022) all occupied the entire Top 3 before Carpenter on 5–12 September 2024.
