Season 2 of the hit South Korean dystopian thriller Squid Game launched on Netflix on 26 December 2024, and by 29 December had been viewed 68 million times. It also reached the No.1 spot of most popular shows in 92 countries.
Netflix report their weekly figures for views between the previous Monday and Sunday (23-29 December), hence only three full days of data being available. In its second week, Squid Game 2 was viewed a further 58.2 million times; and the second-most-watched series that week was the original Squid Game (2021).
Squid Game 2 surpassed the viewership of Netflix's Addams Family-inspired dark comedy series Wednesday (2022), which logged 50.1 million views in its debut week.
According to Netflix, "views" are defined as "the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime. Values are rounded to 100,000."
In those first four days, Squid Game 2 accrued a total of 487.6 million hours of viewing time. As of 27 January 2025, the original Squid Game remains at the top of the all-time Netflix chart of hours viewed in the first 28 days of release, with 1.65 billion hours, compared with its sequel at position No.4 with 1.18 billion hours. Between the two are Stranger Things Season 4 (1.35 billion hours) and Wednesday (1.27 billion hours).
