“All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey (USA) had amassed 140 weeks in the Top 100 of the UK’s Official Singles Chart as of 9 January 2025. Carey’s Christmas classic finally got the better of “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl in November 2024, with both songs heading into the festive season tied on 131 weeks. “All I Want…” charted one week earlier (14 November 2024) than “Fairytale”, and lasted one week longer on the countdown after Christmas (9 January 2025), leaving the songs’ compelling rivalry at 140 weeks vs 138 weeks by the time the Official Singles Chart had rid itself of festive fare for another Christmas.

As of 16 January 2025, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” (140 weeks) and “Fairytale of New York” (138 weeks, including five weeks for the 1991 re-issue) were clear of “Last Christmas” by Wham! (131 weeks, including 25 weeks for the 1984 original-release double A-side with "Everything She Wants"), “Merry Xmas Everybody” by Slade (124 weeks) and “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid (111 weeks) as the longest-running Christmas songs on the Official Singles Chart.
