The largest neon sign in the form of an animal (albeit a mythological one) is a rotating pair of twinned 40 x 32-ft (12.2 x 9.8-m) enamel and neon Pegasus flying horses, which incorporate more than 1,000 ft (305 m) of neon tubing, and are now displayed in a park in downtown Dallas, Texas, USA.

The original Pegasus sign was created in 1934 by local signmaker Texlite and was installed at the top of the 29-storey Magnolia Petroleum building (now the Magnolia Hotel) to mark a gathering of the American Petroleum Institute in Dallas that year. Magnolia Petroleum later became known as the Mobil Oil Corporation (and now as ExxonMobil), hence why many people refer to the creature as the "Mobil Pegasus". In 1973, the much-loved Dallas mascot was recognized as a local landmark and, three years later, became property of the city.

After the original sign was removed owing to disrepair, to mark the new millennium, a slightly smaller replica was fitted at the top of the Magnolia Hotel following a public campaign. The larger originals were unexpectedly rediscovered in storage in 2015 in very poor condition (i.e., rusty and full of bullet holes); again, with funds raised by the public, this was restored and is now on display once again, atop a small oil derrick pedestal in a park near the entrance of the Omni Hotel in the city's Convention Center District.

The largest animated animal neon sign, meanwhile, is the rotating Anheuser-Busch Eagle located on the roof of the Budweiser brewery in Newark, New Jersey, USA. With flapping wings that stretch 34 ft (10.4 m) across, the iconic Newark landmark is comprised of some 4,500 ft (1,372 m) of neon tubing, laid out in six layers to create the illusion that the wings are in motion. It was installed in the late 1950s, after being designed by Disney animator Byron Rabbit and then created by the Artkraft Strauss Sign Corporation.
