A popcorn cannon consists of a party balloon taped to the end of a toilet-roll tube. The tube is filled with popcorn, and when the tied end of the balloon is stretched and released, the popcorn is ejected into the air. Audience members at The Invention Show were given bags containing the individual elements of the cannon and had five minutes to assemble them. Joining Ruth on stage for the mass popcorn launch was Gully Mouse, the Gulliver's Valley theme park mascot, who had his own oversized popcorn cannon made from a bucket.

Kids Invent Stuff is a YouTube channel fronted by Ruth Amos and Shawn Brown that inspires children to embrace their inner inventor and pitch all manner of wacky inventions.
