India won 16 Test match series in a row on home soil between March 2013 and October 2024. The astonishing sequence of results came to an end on 26 October 2024, when New Zealand won the Second Test in Pune by 113 runs on their way to a shock 3–0 series whitewash. It was India’s first home Test series defeat for almost 12 years, dating back to England’s 2–1 success in a four-match series that ended in December 2012. India had set the record at 16 consecutive series wins by completing a 2–0 triumph against Bangladesh in Kanpur on 1 October 2024, a rain-affected match that saw the hosts amass 285 for 9 declared in 34.4 overs in their first innings, setting new Test team records for the fastest 50 (19 balls), 100 (62 balls), 150 (112 balls), 200 (148 balls) and 250 (183 balls).

India’s winning streak saw the following teams leave the subcontinent empty-handed after series consisting of a minimum of two matches: Australia (4–0 in Feb–Mar 2013, 2–1 in Feb–Mar 2017 and 2–1 in Feb–Mar 2023 – all for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy); West Indies (2–0 in Nov 2013 and 2–0 in Oct 2018); South Africa (3–0 in Nov–Dec 2015 and 3–0 in Oct 2019 – both for the Freedom Trophy); New Zealand (3–0 in Sep–Oct 2016 and 1–0 in Nov–Dec 2021); England (4–0 in Nov–Dec 2016, 3–0 in Feb–Mar 2021 and 4–1 in Jan–Mar 2024 – 2021 and 2024 series for the Anthony de Mello Trophy); Sri Lanka (1–0 in Nov–Dec 2017 and 2–0 in Mar 2022); Bangladesh (2–0 in Nov 2019 and 2–0 in Sep–Oct 2024).

India also won Tests against Bangladesh in Feb 2017 and Afghanistan in Jun 2018 amid their sequence of 16 consecutive series triumphs, but these matches are excluded on the basis that they were one-off fixtures and did not form part of a multi-match series.
