The youngest female to swim 1 km in Arctic waters is Marion Joffle (France, b. 9 March 1999), who was aged 23 years 56 days when she completed the swim off Longyearbyen in the Svalbard archipelago, Norway, on 4 May 2022. The swim was ratified by the International Ice Swimming Association.
Joffle's swim lasted for 28 minutes 36 seconds and the water temperature was -1°C (30.2°F).
On the same day, the male record was also set in Svalbard, when Joshua Ackerman (South Africa, b. 5 August 1998) also completed a 1-km swim in Svalbard.
She also holds the record for being the youngest female to swim 1 km in Antarctic waters, aged 24 years 352 days when she swam near Port Lockroy on Wiencke Island off the Antarctic Peninsula on 24 February 2024.
