The fastest time to swim the 42-km (26-mi) Ka'iwi/Moloka'i Channel between the islands of Oahu and Moloka'i in Hawaii, USA, by a male swimmer is 9 hours 55 minutes 10 seconds, set by Andreas Waschburger (Germany) on 6 October 2024. The record was ratified by the Hawaiian Channel Swimming Association.

This smashed the previous record of 12 hours 2 minutes, set by Attila Mányoki (Hungary) on 21 September 2015.

Even more impressively, shortly after starting his attempt from Lā’au Point, the 37-year-old swimmer hit a rock causing a cut on his head that continued to bleed for most of the attempt, but he decided to keep going.

The previous year, Waschburger also claimed the record for the fastest time to swim the English Channel: 6 hours 45 minutes 25 seconds on 8 September 2023.
