The most FIFA World Cup matches hosted by a stadium is 19, achieved by the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, between 31 May 1970 and 29 June 1986.

The Estadio Azteca hosted 10 World Cup games in 1970 and nine in 1986, and is the only stadium to have hosted two men’s World Cup finals. It witnessed classic ties such as Italy’s 4–3 win over West Germany in the 1970 semi-final, dubbed the “Game of the Century”, and Argentina’s 2–1 win over England in the 1986 quarter-final, where Diego Maradona scored his “Hand of God” goal and also with a spectacular dribble later voted FIFA’s Goal of the Century.
