Race organizer Runbuk is on a mission to help people “discover the world through exceptional running experiences.” Rubuk, based out of San Francisco, California, USA, hosts exotic, intense runs on all seven continents, including the North Pole Marathon, Antarctic Ice Marathon, Volcano Marathon on Easter Island in Chile, and the World Marathon Challenge, 7 marathons, on 7 continents, in 7 days.
For the North Pole Marathon, runners arrive on an icebreaking vessel and then compete on floating sea ice ranging from a meter to two meters in thickness. The course is never the same, as this sea ice is moving with the ocean tides even during the race. The course is charted and measured on the spot and run in laps until they reach 42.195km.
