The heaviest tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica) is 310 g (10.93 oz) and was grown by Graham Barratt (UK), as assessed at Wargrave Nursery in Wargrave, Berkshire, UK, on 28 July 2026.
This smashed the previous record of 236 g (8.32 oz) grown by Rolf Böhland (Germany), as assessed at the Central German GPC Weigh-in Championship held in Unterwellenborn, Thuringia, Germany, on 6 September 2025.
The variety of tomatillo was one that Barratt had developed himself using three different strains: "Plaza Latina Giant", "Hungarian Giant" and "Super Verde".
By comparison, an average-size tomatillo weighs around 34 g (1.2 oz).
