Most frequently cursed object in horror movies

In horror movies, the object that most often carries a curse or connection to some supernatural evil is a ring. A total of 188 supernatural horror films have been made where a cursed ring plays a role, which represents more than half the films in the subgenre of cursed or possessed items.

Cursed object movies have had two notable peaks of popularity. The first was during the 1930s, with films such as The Monkey's Paw (USA; 1933), and the second came in the 1990s with films like Ring (JPN, 1998; which doesn't actually involve any cursed rings, the vengeful spirit Sadako is contained in a VHS tape).

The next most commonly-cursed objects in movies are dolls – as in Child's Play (USA, 1988) and Annabelle (USA, 2014) – and books – as in The Prophecy (USA, 1994) and The Ninth Gate (USA, 1999).
