According to figures published by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the viewing share for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) among youth audiences (15-24-year-olds) was the highest on record, at 58.6%. Online engagement fuelled the event’s incredible surge in popularity, with 486 million unique accounts reached on TikTok – more than quadrupling 2023’s numbers – and 538 million video views on the platform’s official Eurovision account. On Instagram, 69 million unique accounts were reached – more than twice as many as in 2023 – and video views increased 165% to 479 million.
The 68th edition of the ESC was broadcast by Sveriges Television (SVT) from Malmö, Sweden, and reached a total of 163 million people across three live shows (two semi-finals and the final on 7, 9 and 11 May 2024) on public-service media channels in 37 markets in Europe and beyond – an increase of 1 million viewers on the 2023 shows and 2 million on 2022. Votes were cast in a record 156 countries worldwide. In a change to the format in 2024, public voting opened before the live shows in non-participating countries, and was available throughout the final to Eurovision fans worldwide.
