Votes were cast by a record 156 countries worldwide for the two semi-finals and the Grand Final of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. In a change to the format, public voting opened before the live shows in 119 non-participating countries, and throughout the final to viewers worldwide – including all 37 participating nations. In 2024, 12 more countries were involved in the voting process than when the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) introduced “Rest of the World” voting to Eurovision in 2023.

Switzerland’s Nemo (b. Nemo Mettler) emerged victorious with 591 points from the combined televoting (226) and jury (365) results. Surprisingly, their winning song, “The Code”, received just one score of “douze [12] points” from the participating countries (excluding Switzerland, who were not permitted to vote for their own entry) plus the “Rest of the World” aggregate public vote, and a single score of 10. The televoting result alone placed Nemo – the first openly non-binary artist to win Eurovision – fifth overall, behind Croatia, Israel, Ukraine and France. It was the 22 12-point maximums awarded to “The Code” by the juries that proved decisive.
