As of 2024, Germany (representing West Germany until 1990) has appeared at all but one of the 68 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) that have taken place since 1956. Controversially, its 1996 entry, “Planet of Blue” by Leon (b. Jürgen Göbel), failed to make it beyond the audio-only pre-qualification round, despite Germany being the contest’s biggest financial contributor at the time.

Fifty-two countries have participated in the ESC on at least one occasion; Australia was the most recent to join the party, in 2015.

Most appearances at the ESC, as of 2024 (40+): 67 – Germany (1956-2024); 66 – France (1956-2024); 66 – United Kingdom (1957-2024); 65 – Belgium (1956-2024); 64 – Netherlands (1956-2024); 64 – Switzerland (1956-2024); 63 – Spain (1961-2024); 63 – Sweden (1958-2024); 62 – Norway (1960-2024); 57 – Finland (1961-2024); 57 – Ireland (1965-2024); 56 – Austria (1957-2024); 55 – Portugal (1964-2024); 52 – Denmark (1957-2024); 49 – Italy (1956-2024); 46 – Israel (1973-2024); 44 – Greece (1974-2024); 40 – Cyprus (1981-2024).
