Belgium’s Fud Leclerc (b. Ferdinand Urbain Dominic Leclerc; 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1962), Switzerland’s multi-lingual trio Peter, Sue and Marc (Peter Reber, Sue Schell and Marc Dietrich; 1971, 1976, 1979 and 1981) and San Marino’s Valentina Monetta (2012-14 and 2017) have all taken to the stage at four editions of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). Swedish-born singer Elisabeth “Bettan” Andreassen has also made four appearances: in 1982 (as a member of Chips, representing Sweden), 1985 (as one half of the Norwegian duo Bobbysocks!), 1994 (in collaboration with Norway’s Jan Werner Danielsen) and 1996 (as a solo artist, also representing Norway).

Leclerc came second in 1956, fifth in 1958, sixth in 1960 and 13th in 1962; Peter, Sue and Marc’s best finish was fourth, in both 1976 and 1981. Notably, the talented trio performed songs in different languages for each of their four appearances – respectively French, English, German and Italian; Monetta failed to progress beyond the semi-finals in 2012-13 and 2017, but made history as San Marino’s first-ever finalist – at the fifth attempt – with “Maybe” in 2014. Andreassen won the contest in 1985, performing “La det swinge” (“Let It Swing”) with Hanne Krogh as Bobbysocks! “Bettan” almost repeated the trick on home soil in 1996 when “I evighet” (“For Eternity”) finished runner-up to Eimear Quinn’s “The Voice” at the 41st edition in Oslo, Norway.

A number of singers have made three appearances, including the first-ever ESC winner, Lys Assia, consecutively in 1956-58. (Assia was allowed to perform twice in 1956 – once in German and once in French, with the winning song “Refrain”.)
