The first person with complete quadriplegia to summit Kilimanjaro (male) is Max Levene (UK) in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, on 14 September 2024.
Max broke his neck playing rugby in 2009. Only a few months earlier he was in Kenya with his family where he first saw the majestic Kilimanjaro and decided that one day he would climb the mountain. "13 years on I have realised I should complete the mission I set out before my injury even if the challenge is now far greater."
He trained for 5 days a week around his 30-hour work week for this attempt.
Max and his team began the journey to Uhuru peak on 9 September. Their final climb started at 5:30 and finished around 14:20.
His endeavours helped to raise around £40,000 for two charities, one who do spinal injury research and one who look after injured rugby players
