The fastest 250 m freestyle ice swim under International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) regulations by a female swimmer is 2 minutes 56.69 seconds, achieved by Emilia Finer (New Zealand) at the IISA NZ & Southern Hemisphere Ice Swimming Championships in Alexandra, New Zealand, on 10 July 2024.
The water temperature in the outdoor pool at the Alexandra Aquatic Center during the race was 2.26°C (36°F).
At the same event, Finer also set new female ice swim records for the fastest 100 m butterfly (1 minute 10.42 seconds) and the fastest 200 m individual medley (2 minutes 40.21 seconds).
