The largest rope carrying parade consists of 782 people and was achieved by Sendai Otsunahiki Culture Preserving Committee (Japan) in Satsumasendai, Kagoshima, Japan on 22 September 2025.

The challenger and organiser of this attempt was the Otsunahiki Culture Preserving Committee, based in Satsumasendai, the town where this record was held. The 'Otsunahiki' or "tug of war" is a traditional cultural festival of the region, in which several thousand men split into two teams and pull a massive rope measuring about 250–300 meters in length and weighing around seven tons.

In March 2024, the Satsumasendai Otsunahiki was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. Since last year marked the 425th anniversary of the event, a Guinness World Records challenge was planned to commemorate the occasion. However, due to heavy rainstorms and lightning, it was not possible to continue the attempt. This year, seen as a chance to redeem last year’s setback, both the organisers and participants approached the challenge with strong determination, resulting in a powerful and spirited record attempt.
