The oldest person to row any ocean solo is Frank Rothwell (UK, b. 9 July 1950), who was 73 years 157 days old at the start of his row across the Atlantic (Trade Winds I Route). He travelled east to west from San Sebastian, La Gomera (Canary Islands, Spain) to English Harbour, Antigua, in 64 days, 7 hours and 53 minutes.
This, of course, also makes Rothwell the oldest person to row solo across the Atlantic; he surpassed his previous record, having completed the same east-to-west route covering about 3,000 nautical miles (5,554 km; 3,450 mi) from La Gomera to Antigua between 12 December 2020 and 6 February 2021, arriving aged 70 years 212 days.
On both rows, Rothwell was seeking to raise funds for the charity Alzheimer's Research UK.
Away from adventures on the high seas, Rothwell is the chair of Oldham Athletic AFC.
