The largest spinning wheel in the world is 4.01 m (13.15 ft) tall and stands on a town square in Sainte-Germaine Boulé, Quebec, Canada. It was erected in 1983 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the town. The wheel itself has a diameter of 2.44 m (8 ft) and the entire machine, which weighs around 400 kg (880 lb), is powered by electricity.
The spinning wheel was selected in recognition the work of women in the early years of the town's existence. It was constructed out of white pine and was designed by taking the dimensions of an existing spinning wheel and multiplying them by four.Note: all the parts of the machine move as they would on a normal spinning wheel.
