Omega Centauri, in the southern constellation of Centaurus, is the most massive of the roughly 140 globular clusters surrounding our galaxy. Consisting of several million stars, whose combined mass is equivalent to 5 million Suns, it is visible to the naked eye as a hazy star. It is around 10 times more massive than the other large globular clusters around our galaxy and some astronomers have suggested that it is actually the remnants of the nucleus of another galaxy, which merged with ours billions of years ago.
