Largest car sale - celebrity

On 5 June 2001 Sir Elton John auctioned 20 motor cars from his private collection at Christie's, London, UK raising £1,951,725 ($2,741,198).  The top price was for a 1993 Jaguar XJ220 with a top speed of 213mph (340km/h) and only 2,204 miles (1,370 km) on the clock which sold for £234,750 ($329,706) to a private British bidder.  The Great Room at Christie's had around 300 people attending the auction. In order of sale price the top five cars went as follows:
