The most money raised by an individual completing a charity walk in a videogame is $478,683.68 (£383,875.59), achieved by Kurt J Mac (USA), as of 15 April 2024. Kurt's "Far Lands or Bust!" sponsored walk in Minecraft (Mojang Studios, 2011) has seen him cover a distance of 8,388,608 blocks – the real-world equivalent of 8,388 km (5,212 miles) – in his quest to reach the game's outer limits.
Kurt's mission began on 6 March 2011, with the aim of visiting the Far Lands – the outer edges of the Minecraft map where, in the earlier versions of the game before being updated, the terrain generation becomes unstable. Kurt continues in the Beta 1.7.3 version, and broadcasts his progress via YouTube, where he also encourages his followers to donate funds to various charities, including the Child's Play Charity, Direct Relief, PAWS, Equal Justice Initiative, CDC Foundation: Crush COVID, Rise Above the Disorder and the Equality Texas Foundation.
Kurt's mission was recognized by GWR as the longest continuous walk in Minecraft, although he has since been overtaken by a number of players. In a nine-month speedrun finishing on 20 June 2020, for example, KilloCrazyMan (USA) became the first person to reach the Far Lands, having walked the equivalent of 12,550 km (7,798 miles).
