The longest running waiters' race is 'La course de garçons de cafe' (France) which was first held in 1914 and most recently in March 2024.
During the competition's early years, participating waiters would carry a tray bearing a bottle and three glasses for as far as 8 km (5 miles), as a way of improving recognition of the waiter profession in Paris.
2024 saw around 200 participants race to balance a tray with a croissant, coffee cup and glass of water over a 2 km (1.25 mile) course.
The Paris event has not been held every year, though similar events are often hosted across France and other countries. 2024 was Paris' first waiters' race in 13 years.
