For years, the idea of a dog collaring a speedrun record would have been considered barking mad. But the achievement of a four-year-old Shiba Inu has given the gaming world paws for thought. With some guidance from his owner – speedrunner JSR – Peanut Butter finished Nintendo’s 1985 puzzle platformer Gyromite in 23 min 9 sec in Jan 2024.
Gyromite was designed to be played by instructing a robot accessory called ROB to press the correct buttons on the controller. For his canine speedrun, Peanut Butter (PB for short) took on this role, pawing giant, customized buttons made by his owner, JSR... and motivated by a reward of his favourite string cheese!
His owner told GWR: “PB broke his own record last night with a nearly PERFECT run.”
PB raised money for charity, too. Good boy!
