The highest price paid for a football medal is £346,000 ($498,994) for Pelé’s 1970 FIFA World Cup winner’s medal, sold by Julien’s Auctions on 7 June 2016.

The medal was one of 2,000 items from Pelé’s personal memorabilia up for sale, including a replica World Cup trophy made especially for the Brazilian legend. The auction raised more than £3.6 m.
