HBO's Succession (USA, 2018–23) won Best Drama Television Series at the Golden Globe Awards in 2020 (for Season 2), 2022 (Season 3) and 2024 (Season 4). At the 81st awards show in Beverly Hills, California, USA, on 7 January 2024, Jesse Armstrong’s comedy-drama matched The X-Files (FOX, USA; 1995 and 1997–98) and Mad Men (AMC, USA; 2008–10) as three-time category winners.

Two-time winners of Best Television Series – Drama include Hill Street Blues (1982–83), Murder, She Wrote (1985–86), Homeland (2012–13) and The Crown (2017 and 2021), while Columbo (1973), Kojak (1976), Dynasty (1984), Twin Peaks (1991), NYPD Blue (1994), The Sopranos (2000), The West Wing (2001), Lost (2006), Grey’s Anatomy (2007), Breaking Bad (2014), The Handmaid’s Tale (2018) and House of the Dragon (2023) are some of the series that have won the accolade once.

Succession has attracted a total of 18 Golden Globe nominations across multiple categories since 2019, with wins for Brian Cox (Best Actor, 2020), Jeremy Strong (Best Actor, 2022), Sarah Snook (Best Supporting Actress, 2022; Best Actress, 2024), Kieran Culkin (Best Actor, 2024) and Matthew Macfadyen (Best Supporting Actor, 2024).
