The youngest person to snowkite unsupported across Antarctica is Rolf Bae (Norway, 9 January 1975–1 August 2008), who was aged 26 years 27 days when he completed his journey on 5 February 2001. Bae left the Troll Base on Dronning Maud Land on 21 October 2000, travelling with fellow Norwegian adventurer Eirik Sønneland. It took the duo 107 days to reach Williams Field, the ice runway on McMurdo Sound, ending their 3,800-km (2,360-mile) traverse.
Tragically, Bae died while attempting to climb K2 in 2008.
He was married to fellow Norwegian adventurer Cecilie Skog, who holds several GWR titles in her own right.
