Metallica (USA) won a record-extending seventh award in the Best Metal Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards on 4 February 2024, for “72 Seasons”, the title track of their 11th studio album.
First presented at the 32nd Grammys in 1990, the James Hetfield-fronted quartet won the category’s first three awards, for “One”, “Stone Cold Crazy” and their eponymously titled fifth studio album. Metallica returned to the winners’ podium in 1999 (“Better Than You”), 2004 (“St. Anger”) and 2009 (“My Apocalypse”) and, as of 2024, they had four more wins than Tool (1998, 2002 and 2020).
The band’s latest award was accepted by bassist Rob Trujillo, at the Grammys’ pre-main-telecast “Premiere Ceremony”.
