The United States of America produces the most municipal waste per capita in the world according to figures issued by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in 2001. The estimated figure stands at 760 kg (1,675 lb) per capita. This figure is only an estimate as all the countries who took part in the survey define 'municipal waste' in varying terms (e.g. some include old cars that are dumped as municipal waste, others don't) although these figures are as accurate as you can get.
