The longest underground mine complex is the Viburnum Trend Mining District in southeast Missouri, USA. Here, four lead mines operated by the Doe Run Company (USA) – Casteel, Buick, Brushy Creek and Fletcher – are connected by a 25-mile-long (40 km) underground roadway.
It is possible to enter the complex at the Casteel mine-head near the town of Bixby and emerge from the Fletcher mine, some 13.5 miles (21.7 km) to the south.
