The largest LEGO®-brick recreation of a painting is Water Lilies #1, measuring 15.3 m wide by 2.7 m high (8 ft 10 in x 50 ft 2 in), for a total area of 41.31 m2 (444.7 sq ft). The artwork, created by Ai Weiwei (China) in 2022, was unveiled at an exhibition at the Design Museum in London, UK, on 7 April 2023.
It was inspired by Claude Monet's famous Water Lilies 1914-26 triptych, and made from nearly 650,000 LEGO studs in 22 different colours.
Water Lilies #1 spanned an entire wall while on display at London's Design Museum between 7 April and 30 July 2023. It featured in the artist's largest UK show in eight years, Ai Weiwei: Making Sense.
