The Robert C Byrd Green Bank Telescope is a radio telescope at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia, USA. It is fully moveable and its highest point stands 146m 480 ft tall. The dish measures 100m by 110m 328ft by 360 ft and can move to observe the whole sky from 5 degrees above the horizon. The telescope saw 'first light' on 22 Aug 2000. This is a very significant event for an observatory, as it is the first time it makes observations of the universe.
