The most consecutive pole positions at a Formula One Grand Prix is 7, achieved by Ayrton Senna (Brazil) while driving for Lotus and McLaren at the San Marino Grand Prix between 1985 and 1991.

In total, Senna qualified fastest eight times at the Imola Circuit, and won the race in 1988, 1989 and 1991. His final pole in San Marino came in 1994; during the race itself on 1 May, Senna’s car left the track at the Tamburello corner and crashed into the wall, fatally injuring him.
